MODULE 8. UNFOLDING THE FUTURE SELF

MODULE 8. UNFOLDING THE FUTURE SELF

As we understand ourselves, there are times we look forward on the different factors in our life. We look unto our past, in our present and we look forward to our future. As said by Soren Kierkegard, “life that can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forward”. According to this quote, we can move forward even if we look back in our past. We should move forward because our past is life lessons or experiences that we should keep. Zimbardo made a theory that explains how human likely to sort or categorize their experience. These are five (5) time perspective: Present-hedonistic, present-fatalistic, past-positive, past-negative, and future-oriented. As per Zimbardo, a healthy perspective is one that combines their past, present, and future.
As we grow old, we look forward to future because we saw things from our past as lesson and we make decisions for our future based on the experiences we had in the past. We live in the present with an ease in our heart because we know the things from right and wrong. We learn things from the past; we live in the present with those learning and we apply those learnings for our future for us to have a better self.
